10 Most Underrated Progressive Rock Albums Of All Time

3. Tangerine Dream - Electronic Meditation

Arguably the German outfit's weirdest, most inaccessible album, 'Electronic Meditation' was quietly one of the most inventive and influential albums of its day. Electronica was still in its infancy when wild, psychedelic, jazzy works of art like this were hitting the stands.

For Tangerine Dream, the movement into the barely present electronic scene was an immediate way to set them apart from the rest of the Krautrock scene at the time. Tracks like 'Journey Through a Burning Brain' showcase the group at their most eccentric, riding a conceptual wave that makes little sense through 12 minutes of hybrid sound.

The LP in general has the footnotes and stepping stones of great innovation in general. Upon listening, it's easy to discover the influence it had on bigger works to come from both them and other acts.

The biggest issue that blighted its success lies in the recording quality. Instead of a top tier studio with the right equipment, the Berlin crew did it all on a tape recorder. The results are less than ideal but there's still a lot to unpack and enjoy about this debut effort from the electronic pioneers.
