10 Most Underrated Radiohead Songs
5. Morning Bell - Amnesiac
It will come as a shock to almost no one that you will not see any of Kid A on this list. Since they practically crafted a single solitary masterpiece with that album, not many songs off of that record could really be considered underrated in any capacity. So here we arrive at Morning Bell...who's re-recording sounds almost nowhere near what you heard in its original form.
For one thing, the songs are in two separate time signatures, with the band taking that 5/4 rhythm of the original song and compressing it into common time for Amnesiac. According to Ed O'Brien, this was one of the first times where they thought that both versions of the song had enough character on their own to stand beside each other, and he is correct if you listen to them side by side.
Though the original sounds very cold and calculated at times, there's a lot more despair that comes out of this song from the opening alone. Outside of the sudden jolt of sound, this entire track feels like you've been thrown into the middle of a bad dream, where nothing really makes sense and things could go haywire at any moment. If anything, the existence of this track alone makes a good case study for what would happen if you put the songs from Kid A and Amnesiac into one full project.
