10 Most Underrated Radiohead Songs
4. Decks Dark - A Moon Shaped Pool
As we've seen over the past few years, Radiohead haven't been ones for rocking out that much on records anymore. Though we have been getting bite sized snippets of what rock songs they had been toying with back in the '90s, a lot of the songs off of the King of Limbs and A Moon Shaped Pool are much more mellow that what we have seen over the years. That doesn't mean the darkness has gone anywhere though.
Given all of the film scoring that Jonny Greenwood has under his belt at this point, Decks Dark is where he really gets to flex those muscles again, bringing in lavish string sections to provide the backdrop for Thom's vocals. So what are we talking about on this track then? Love? Loneliness? Nope....just aliens. Much like we heard on OK Computer with Subterranean Homesick Alien, this is the account of a man witnessing an extraterrestrial spacecraft touching down.
The song definitely suits the vibe of something otherworldly coming to pass, with the strings cascading over the speakers and providing a vibe that never seems quite at home. This is practically the musical equivalent of watching an obscure arthouse horror movie at the end of the day. If Ok Computer felt the most grandiose and Kid A felt the most robotic, this is the one song in Radiohead's canon that feels the most cinematic.
