10 Most Underrated Red Hot Chili Peppers Songs
3. Warped - One Hot Minute
If you had asked people what their least favorite Chili Peppers album was about a decade ago, chances are you'd get a lot of people singling out One Hot Minute. Since this was the one lull album in between Frusciante leaving the band, no one really cared about what they were doing outside of the single Aeroplane. If they had stuck around for any of the other ones though, they wouldn't have missed out on one of the more intense songs they had ever made.
Being one of the first writing sessions with Dave Navarro, Warped is one of the single oddest choices of single that the Peppers have released, with a whole opening section that is just a dark spoken word piece by Anthony. Once the groove finally drops though, we are back in prime funk rock territory, which almost verges on hard rock with Navarro's guitar licks.
There's also a bit of a dangerous edge in the lyrics, as Anthony talks about descending all the way down. Given that the man was just going through a new struggle with painkillers, those hit a lot different once you hear them in context. Still, with all of the manic energy on display and some of the most savage riffs in their catalog, Warped almost serves as the perfect test run for what they would do later on songs like Around the World.
