10 Most Underrated Rock Albums Of All Time
1. Warning - Green Day
After the glow of the '90s wore off, Green Day were in a bit of a compromised position. They did have an all time classic on their hands with 1994's Dookie, but the pop punk bratiness of that record started to lose its luster once the band started to grow older. Though the band's 1997 offering Nimrod offered a more mature look at the band's sound, it wasn't until Warning that they really started to tap into something brilliant.
Almost pulling a bait and switch on their audience's expectations, this entire album has a folksy vibe going for it, with much of the electric guitar crunch being substituted with acoustic guitars. Though songs like the title track took a bit of getting used to, the rest of the album has new ideas popping up at every corner, from the early Beatles energy behind "Hold On" to the band's detour into Gothic folk on "Misery."
This album also doesn't get nearly enough credit for "Minority," whose poignant message and political heart gave the band the confidence they needed to take on something like American Idiot just a few years later. Warning might still be the band's most under the radar release, but the amount of heart put into this record is something that you only see with the passage of time.
