10 Most Underrated Rock Albums Of The '90s

6. Blind Melon - Blind Melon

The whole allure behind Blind Melon feels like a long forgotten memory at this point. At a time when alternative was about to go mainstream and Kurt Cobain was becoming the voice of the people, the hippie-fied movement of the late '90s actually managed to have one fluke indie hit with No Rain. When you talk about Blind Melon though, this one record still brings back memories of what could have been.

Contrary to his flower child persona in the video, Shannon Hoon was every bit the star frontman that you could ask for, giving a lot of these songs the jolt they need like on Change and Tones of Home. You can't really call them alternative either though, with a lot of their influences being from traditional rock and roll and having friends in giants Guns N Roses.

Looking back on these songs, they're almost closer to the Red Hot Chili Peppers in some spots, with Tones of Home being one of the funkiest things that the early '90s ever spat out that wasn't called Give It Away. We wouldn't get to see what they had in store though, with Hoon dying of an overdose a few months after their next record came out. There's a phenomenal band buried in here somewhere...they just didn't have the time to prove it.
