10 Most Underrated Rock Ballads Of All Time

9. Til There Was You - The Beatles

There aren't too many people on this earth who would consider anything that the Beatles have done underrated. Now that we have an entire documentary about almost their entire existence, the songs of the Fab Four have almost been overexplained to the rock masses for years now. So what's with this one cover that no one brings up all that often?

While it's easy to look at With the Beatles as a bit of a transitionary album before landing on A Hard Day's Night, Til There Was You was the first time we got to see the Fabs break away from their usual structure, going for a pure ballad in every sense of the word. Taken from the Broadway musical the Music Man, Paul McCartney is a natural on this track, crooning just like a mop topped version of someone like Bing Crosby.

You also have to keep in mind how old these guys were when they were making a track like this. George Harrison had barely come into his 20's and already he's creating a solo that openly goes through different chord structures that you would normally find in some jazz guitar record from around the same time. Though this is nowhere close to the more expansive sounds of Rubber Soul or Revolver, the Beatles were still ahead of the curve even when in their pop band phase.
