10 Most Underrated Rock Music Albums Of The 2000s
1. Warning - Green Day
The cardinal sin that pop punk bands have to face every single day is having to grow up. Since this is a genre known to cater to the teenage demographic, it gets kinda hard to stay in touch with what your audience is looking for when you start to grow out of your angry rebellious phase. Growing up is a part of life though, and Green Day proved that adults can be just as badass on Warning.
Having been a half-decade since Dookie, this was one of the biggest musical left turns that the band had taken thus far, pulling a lot more from the folk rock sounds of Bob Dylan. As much as this album failed to register with the public, there's still a ton of great songs on here, each of which show a different side of what makes Billie Joe Armstrong tick. One minute you'll be in a scene straight out of the Nightmare Before Christmas on Misery and than have some nervy visions of Elvis Costello on a song like Deadbeat Holiday.
In between though, you also have some of Billie's sharpest lyrics to date, going from writing about masturbation on Longview a few years before to rising up against anyone who's looking to drag you down on Minority. If we tried listening a little more closely, we may have seen the bold sounds of American Idiot waiting just around the corner.
