10 Most Underrated Rock Music Albums Of The 2000s

2. Pretty Odd - Panic at the Disco

Towards the mid 2000s, there came a time when pop punk and emo started to be used interchangeably. Though there was a clear distinction between the genres, you could always spot the emo stripe of bands based on how much eyeliner the band members put on every time they took the stage. And it seemed like Panic at the Disco knew this, and deliberately tried to play with our expectations on Pretty Odd.

As if the album title wasn't your first hint, this is like the band grew up exponentially since their debut record, with lead songwriter Ryan Ross getting a lot more into folk rock. Along with a close attention to detail, this is basically a classic rock record influenced by the likes of Crosby Stills and Nash and The Beatles, with some amazing hooks like on the song Northern Downpour or the unstoppable bombast of Nine in the Afternoon.

It's at this point that I should remind you that we're still talking about the same band who recorded songs like I Write Sins Not Tragedies just one album before. This kind of Beatles worship wasn't meant to last though, with Ross quickly parting ways with the group and Brendon Urie continuing on. Though the Panic that we know now is just a name for Brendon's solo act, seeing the sequel to Pretty Odd remains one of the biggest mysteries in modern rock.
