10 Most Underrated Rock Songs Of The 90s
3. Singing In My Sleep - Semisonic
It's safe to say that most casual rock fans had had their fill of Semisonic once Closing Time started to blare out of every single bar at the end of the night. When you've heard a song so much towards the end of the night that you can practically sing the lyrics without even trying too hard, you know you're suffering from chronic song burnout. Though most may have been victims of overkill, Semisonic still had enough gas in the tank for another hit with Singing In My Sleep.
For any resident music nerds, this kind of song is everything you could ask for in a power pop track, with lyrics that describe Dan Wilson falling in love to the tune of an incredible mixtape. There's even bits and pieces of the new school of pop punk coming from this song, having whiffs of late period Weezer in Dan Wilson's delivery.
Once the '90s started to turn more towards pretty mode with TRL though, it was basically curtains for Semisonic, as they quickly went on hiatus after the release of their next album All About Chemistry. It's not like Dan Wilson went anywhere though, being a powerhouse songwriter in the game still and penning Someone Like You for Adele. If you're even slightly curious for more, this is living proof that Closing Time should not be the be all end all for these power pop giants.
