10 Most Unexpected Collaborations In Modern Rock

9. Motley Crue & Machine Gun Kelly

In 2019, Netflix released the movie The Dirt, a biopic of the band Motley Crue which somehow managed to cram about 40 years worth of insanity into a 108-minute runtime.

The film starred Douglas Booth as Nikki Sixx, Iwan Rheon as Mick Mars, and portraying Tommy Lee was a fella by the name of Colson Baker.

Or, as he's best known, Machine Gun Kelly.

MGK's turn as the Motley Crue drummer coincided with his switch from hip hop to pop punk, and may have even been one of the reasons for his change in musical direction. Not wanting to miss out on a chance to team up with some rocking pioneers, Kelly joined the Crue for a special original song.

Carrying the subheading "Est. 1981", The Dirt (the song) was released into the world and... well, it didn't do great. It failed to chart in any mainstream way and just about scraped its way in to the Billboard rock rankings.

Still, this was probably a really fun experience for Machine Gun Kelly and, at the end of the day, isn't that all what we care about most in life?
