10 Most Unexpected Collaborations In Modern Rock

8. Queens Of The Stone Age & Elton John

Elton John has lived a long and varied life, collaborating with just about anybody who will agree to pop into his studio and bring biscuits.

Kiki Dee, George Michael, Queen, Kanye West, Dua Lipa, Eminem, the list of Elton's musical buddies just goes on and on and on. In 2013, at his own request, the Rocket Man added Queens of the Stone Age to his little black book.

As the story goes, QOTSA singer Josh Homme got a phone call one day and found one of the most successful pop vocalists of all time on the other end of the line. After stumbling across Them Crooked Vultures (another Homme project), Elton decided that he simply had to work with the band and personally made the call.

Apparently he said that the group was missing "an actual queen", which sounds like something Elton John would say. The end result was Fairweather Friends, an album track featuring John on backing vocals and piano.

Could the group have made a bigger deal of having one of the highest-selling artists of all time on their album? Probably, but that isn't really how Queens of the Stone Age do things, is it?
