10 Most Unsubtle Rock Music Innuendos
7. Pearl Necklace - ZZ Top (1981)
Ever the cool guys of boogie rock, ZZ Top cut a fine shape with their signature viking beards and array of fine headwear. With all the greasy guitar riffs and references to sippin' whiskey, these guys couldn't resist the urge to throw the odd sexual innuendo into their songs.
Now, if you were just grooving away to the boogie guitar and weren't really paying attention to the lyrics, you'd be forgiven for not picking up on everything that's being implied in this song. To the casual listener, it would appear Billy Gibbons is merely regaling us with a story of how he treated his partner to a fine piece of jewellery. But this grand gesture of generosity, isn't one you want to do in public.
You don't have to think too hard about what he's on about, particularly towards the end of the song when he drops the lyrics "I was gettin' blown away" and "she held it in her hand". Just in case there was any doubt, Gibbons rounds off the final verse with the line "And that's not jewellery she's talkin' about". I might suggest Googling 'pearl necklace', if you're still unsure of its meaning, but in this case it's best not too...
