10 Most Unsubtle Rock Music Innuendos
6. Sir Psycho Sexy - Red Hot Chili Peppers (1991)
Anthony Kiedis' early lyricism revolved almost entirely around his own sexual escapades. His prominence and reputation as a swaggering ladies man earned him the nickname 'The Swan' from his band mates.
With a strutting bass line and sleazy guitar part, this song oozes seedy sexuality before the lyrics even start. The entire runtime is pretty much an exercise in self-aggrandising. Kiedis spends over eight minutes rapping about his sexual habits; detailing his best moves and boasting about his ability to please women. If you haven't guessed already 'Sir Psycho Sexy' is the name Kiedis bestowed upon himself for this particular medley.
Half the lyrics don't even attempt to mask themselves behind metaphors. He uses "Garden of Eden" to represent female genitals, but quickly discards the metaphor to refer to his own junk, as graphically as he can. The song jumps back and forth between this kind of sloppy symbolism and explicit use of language. The most egregious line comes in the form of "creamy beaver, hotter than a fever". This song is about a million miles away from the rock anthems Californication and Scar Tissue.
