9. Nine Inch Nails Closer

Closer was released in 1994 from the album The Downward Spiral and remains one of the band's most well-known songs. The premise of the video appears to be that of a mad-scientist's laboratory, depicting all kinds of gruesome experiments the vast majority of which appear to centre on the mistreatment of animals. These include a monkey tied to a cross in mock-crucifixion, a struggling insect and Trent Reznor singing in front of the split corpse of some unidentified livestock. Though most of the violence in the video is implied, it's the fact that it's largely involving animals that makes the whole thing so unnerving.
