10 Music Artists That Won't Defend Their Own Songs
3. Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
As the '70s were giving way to the world of glam rock, Queen were quickly becoming one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Freddie Mercury's wild persona was made for the live stage, and even with a masterpiece like Bohemian Rhapsody well behind them, they were still going strong with one hit after another, from We Are the Champions to Bicycle Race. Life was good for Queen, but Brian May thought that maybe life was going a bit too well for Freddie.
Towards the end of Jazz we got Don't Stop Me Now, which might be one of the closest songs that Queen have to a party jam in their catalog. Across its runtime, Freddie is going for broke on the verses, saying that nothing's going to stand between him having a good time. If you know anything about the excessive lifestyle of Freddie though, you can understand why May was a little bit concerned.
Suffice to say, Freddie's lavish backstage parties were too graphic to show on a website like this, which makes his ode to partying a bit too much of a celebration of the excessive lifestyle that he was already leading. So when Brian said that something didn't sit well with him about the song, it wasn't that he thought the song was bad. He was just trying to make sure that his friend wasn't burning the candle at both ends.
