10 Music Artists Who Released Their Best Album Second

9. Back To Black - Amy Winehouse

Much like Elvis or Chuck Berry, Amy Winehouse is defined far more by her singles than the pair of albums she released in the early-mid 2000's.

The second and final release by the soul singer is one of the best-selling in UK history. It's unorthodox approach to the genre made it a contemporary masterpiece, and as such it gained widespread critical acclaim to accompany its monstrous commercial success.

Tunes like Love Is A Losing Game and the titular Back To Black are reminiscent of a smoke-engulfed 1960's night club, but this somewhat niche style is effortlessly balanced by Rehab or You Know I'm No Good which were, predictably, mainstays in the UK Top 40 Charts.

Winehouse's vocals were simply gorgeous; raspy, unapologetic and utterly angelic. The buttery smooth production throughout ensures you never quite know what the next track will bring, only that it will be garnished with contralto vocals that simply never fail to impress.

An album that is equal parts awe-inspiring in quality yet utterly devastating when pondering what could have been, Back In Black serves as a reminder to us all that Amy Winehouse's desperately short career ended at the very top.

You don't truly know what you had until it's gone.
