10 Music Autobiographies We Would Love To Read

4. Rodriguez

sixtocolor In light of the recent Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugarman, in which we learn of the fascinating story of Sixto Rodriguez and his highly unique musical career, it would be brilliant to hear such an unusual and heart-warming tale told from the man himself. His feelings in response to the muted reception of his early output, his years in the wilderness as a family man and manual labourer followed by the subsequent juxtaposition of playing large capacity venues to adoring fans who value his songs as the symbol of freedom against apartheid in South Africa (and have done so for decades, unbeknown to him). Throughout all this, Rodriguez has remained incredibly humble and modest, and as such I would bet that any suggestion that he share his lowly life story with the world would be met with a look of humility and failure to comprehend how there would be any such demand. With lyrics worthy of Dylan, you can€™t help but feel that in the unlikely event that Rodriguez was to pen an autobiography, it would be an eloquent and enlightening affair.
