10 Music Bands Who Had An Extra Member You Never Knew About
4. Everybody In Guns N’ Roses That Isn’t Axl, Slash Or Duff
Dizzy Reed – (keyboards, 1990–present)
Richard Fortus – (guitar, 2002–present)
Frank Ferrer – (drums, 2006–present)
Melissa Reese – (keyboards, 2016–present)
There’s no band as huge as Guns 'N’ Roses who’ve gone through so many line-up changes in their 35 year history. Everybody knows the classic ‘Appetite for Destruction’ line-up of Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven but very few can tell you any ‘Chinese Democracy’ members.
The 2016-2019 ‘Not in This Lifetime... Tour’ (named after a famous quote from Axl years ago when asked if he ever planned to do a reunion tour with the original line-up) brought back Slash and Duff to the fold and it was the first time Axl, Slash and Duff shared the same stage since 1993's ‘Use Your Illusion’ Tour. It went on to become the third-highest-grossing concert tour of all time. But casual fans who bought a ticket for those shows didn’t know there were four other official members of Guns 'N’ Roses, with most thinking they were simply touring musicians.
There’s keyboardist Dizzy Reed, Axl’s friend who joined in 1990 and contributed to the band’s 'Use Your Illusion I and II'. He’s the band’s second-longest member behind Axl, having spent more time in the band than nearly Slash and Duff combined.
There’s Richard Fortus, previously a guitarist for Enrique Iglesias, who joined Guns in 2002 after auditioning for them.
There’s Frank Ferrer, who was only expected to be a touring drummer for two weeks but quickly became a full-time member in 2006.
And then there’s additional keyboardist Melissa Reese who debuted for the band at their 1 April 2016 show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.
