10 Musical Artists Who Never Got To Become Superstars
4. Bradley Nowell - Sublime
For all intents and purposes, Sublime was supposed to be that one stoner band that would fade into the back pages of '90s history. As much as Bradley Nowell's lyrics might have been funny to quote as you ripped bong hits with your bros, there wasn't really much of a chance that they would see chart success any time soon. A funny thing happened when Bradley Nowell was found dead of a heroin overdose though.
Seeing as there was no real way for Nowell's band to continue on without him, they figured that they would put their final self-titled record out posthumously for the fans to eat up while they all decided what to do next. Once the fans heard it though, things started to really blow up from California radio station KROQ outward, with songs like What I Got and Santeria becoming some of the biggest hits they would ever have.
As much as it felt gratifying to finally see the band blowing up, it would had to have been bittersweet for these guys also, seeing how their friend never got to see his music appreciated on the level that he deserved. Even in a world that seems to rely on throwaway music, Sublime is the ultimate example of why you should appreciate the roses while you can still smell them.
