10 Musical Switchups That Fans Absolutely Hated

9. Arctic Monkeys' Lounge Dreams

If there was a band that wasn't really meant to survive the '00s wave of rock and roll, it should have been the Arctic Monkeys. Given their takeover of the British charts and becoming one of the biggest names in music through some random file sharing on the Internet, it wouldn't be shocking to see them flame out in the coming years. Though Alex Turner managed to keep the Monkeys enterprise afloat, they're still on a bit of shaky ground with Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino.

It's not like we didn't see this coming though, with all of the promotion featuring songs that would have fit perfectly in a middle aged jazz bar in the late '80s. While the novelty was fun at first, fans were split down the middle when they realized it wasn't a joke, as Turner traded in his snide sensual delivery with something that sounds like a mix between Robert Goulet on a bad night and what appears to be Batman if he were drunk off his ass.

Even as time has gone on, fans still don't know what to make of this direction the Monkeys' went in, either being a bold experiment or one of the most lethargic records the rock genre ever spat out. We can at least agree on one thing though: this is certainly a different Monkeys than who we got to know on Brianstorm and Mardy Bum.
