10 Musical Switchups That Fans Absolutely Hated
3. Megadeth Gets Pretty
Ever since Dave Mustaine was booted from Metallica back in the day, fans have been clamoring to see him trying to outdo his former band at everything with Megadeth. At this point, we should just give the guy a break and let him find an identity of his own, which he certainly did with classics like Rust in Peace and Peace Sells. When you do decide to copy your old band though, you might want to be careful what you wish for.
In the early '00s, it looked like Dave wanted to reach the level of his peers by teaming up with the San Francisco Symphony, just like Metallica had done for the live album S&M. While the building blocks were certainly there with the song Symphony of Destruction, it was clear that Mustaine was not nearly as equipped for this performance as his peers, going off on tangents with the orchestra trying to cover him up.
By Dave's own admission, he didn't practice nearly enough for this kind of thing, which probably led to the one or two disgruntled looks coming from the rest of the musicians when trying to make up for his loss of timing and feel. As much as players of Mustaine's caliber tend to have their off days, most of them aren't reserved for the taping of a live DVD.
