The Finnish death metal band Children of Bodom hail from Espoo, a city located in the country's southern region. Their name references a horrific crime which was committed in their hometown back in 1960. The Lake Bodom murders occurred when four teenagers decided to embark on a camping trip. Tragically, only one was destined to leave their lakeside campsite alive.

While asleep in their tents, Maila Irmeli Björklund (15), Anja Tuulikki Mäki (15) and Seppo Antero Boisman (18) were brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, suffering major blunt force trauma and stab wounds to their bodies. The fourth member of the group, Nils Wilhelm Gustafsson, was found outside of the tent with broken facial bones and stab wounds that left him seriously injured.

The crime remains unsolved today. Over the years, various theories have been posited, but none have been definitively proven. In a shocking turn of events, Gustafsson was arrested on suspicion of the murders in 2004, but he was subsequently found not guilty.
