10 Musicians That Got Fired From Huge Bands
4. John Kiffemeyer - Green Day
The punk community has never really worried about technical chops. Since some of the greatest punk bands of all time could get by on just playing the bare essentials, it ended up being more about the attitude that you put into your playing than actually playing all of the correct notes at the right time. Once Green Day started to grow though, John Kiffmeyer was not necessarily going the same distance as the rest of his bandmates.
Trying to juggle drumming as well as his job as the band's agent and de facto manager, Kiffmeyer's job behind the kit was not exactly setting the world on fire, with more than a few times where he would fumble over different drum fills on their first handful of releases. Before the band could even fire him though, he had already announced his departure, saying that he was planning on no longer working with the band after deciding to go to college.
Even when they brought Tre Cool into the mix though, you could still hear the rough edges that needed to be ironed out, with Tre's playing being much too frantic for the rest of the band to even keep up with half the time. When they finally learned to serve the song on albums like Dookie, the pop punk brats that we loved to listen to started to finally fall into place.
