10 Musicians That Got Seriously Injured Onstage
6. Rob Halford's Fender Bender
During the time where heavy metal was slowly starting to come together, Judas Priest were the first ones to really claim the title for themselves. Whereas bands like Black Sabbath may have been more responsible for the sound of the music, Rob Halford fully turned it into an aesthetic, from the biker gang outfit that he wore onstage to the bullwhip that he would use to whip members of the audience that were getting a little out of hand. And a biker isn't complete without the motorcycle...just as long as it stays on track.
While Rob has mentioned different occasions where venues have preferred him to not ride a bike onto the stage, he is always willing to keep it in the set, making for one of the most badass entrances a frontman can have. When they touched down in Toronto for the gig, there were more than a few miscommunications at play, which made the stage covered in smoke by the time that Priest were set to take the stage.
Not timing the moment right, Rob came roaring out on his Harley on to bring everything to a stop when he collided headfirst with a drum riser. As the band focused on playing, Glenn Tipton said that he didn't know anything had gone wrong until he almost stepped on Rob by accident. Although Rob was treated afterwards for a broken nose, the time in the hospital gave him some time to reflect on what he was doing and think about new projects outside of Priest, which led to him leaving the band in the early '90s. It may have just been a slight hiccup, but one of the tamest fender benders in the world resulted in the Metal God being out of commission for a while.
