10 Musicians That Walked Away From HUGE Bands

3. Slash - Guns N Roses

Some of the biggest stars in the world have better reasons to leave their band than others. Even though we might like to call them idiots for leaving this life behind, it's a lot easier to understand their reasoning if you see what they're dealing with. And given what he had to slog through, it's amazing that Slash made it through as long as he did in Guns N Roses.

After the massive success of Appetite for Destruction, things started to unravel the minute that the Use Your Illusion sessions started, with Axl Rose looking to make everything a lot more larger than life. Although Slash wasn't as much of a fan of the style, he did manage to weave in his classic solos throughout the record. The tour was a different story though, with Slash getting more and more uncomfortable with Axl not showing up to some of the performances, oftentimes drinking himself into oblivion while Axl made lavish parties for himself backstage.

Almost limping back to California once the tour wrapped up, Slash was not having anymore of Axl's antics, especially when he started to tinker with every single facet of the band's sound for what would eventually become Chinese Democracy. Leaving to form his own bands like Slash's Snakepit and later Velvet Revolver, Slash's departure from GNR just feels like the band getting way too big way too fast.
