10 Musicians That Were Kicked Out Of Their Own Band

9. Anthony Kiedis - Red Hot Chili Peppers

When living the life of a touring rock band, tension can come from pretty much any angle. From the relentless life of one show after the next to having to be on the sleazy side of the industry, most musicians learn about the more artificial side of the industry fairly quickly. When it's not fun anymore though, you turn to drugs....a lot of drugs.

Compared to what they would be doing in the '90s with Blood Sugar Sex Magik, the Red Hot Chili Peppers were absolutely manic in the '80s, making some of the most off-kilter funk rock known to man on albums like the Uplift Mofo Party Plan. Though no one in the group could claim to be clean, Anthony Kiedis was the most chaotic of them all, oftentimes missing shows altogether to get a kick from his heroin dealer.

Things eventually derailed so much that Kiedis once talked about Flea coming over to his apartment to tell him that he couldn't be in the band if he kept going down such a dark path. This proved to be an easy fix though, as Kiedis proclaimed himself to be the James Brown of the '80s, after which Flea took him back to work on the Chilis next record. Though the Chilis would lose Hillel Slovak before Kiedis eventually got clean, his manic energy over the years has at least put him on par with the Godfather of Soul.
