10 Musicians That Were Kicked Out Of Their Own Band

8. William Goldsmith - Foo Fighters

Anyone looking to break into the industry has to really refine their chops before even thinking about joining a band. Though some of the greatest punk rock has gotten by on some pretty lackluster musicianship, you at least need to have some control of your instrument to actually go the distance in any band. Then again, how the hell could you be up to par when you have one of the greatest drummers in the world as your frontman?

For the most part, Dave Grohl has been the true mastermind of the Foo Fighters, playing everything on the group's debut before bringing in the full band for the Colour and the Shape. While Pat Smear and Nate Mendel managed to hold their own alright, drummer William Goldsmith's playing was not up to the Grohl standard, with fills that didn't really fit in with the rest of the song.

In one of the more shady moments in the Foos history, Grohl actually recorded the Colour and the Shape twice, one with Goldsmith's drumming and a second pass at the record where he replayed all of the parts the way they were supposed to go. Devastated by being shown up by his own frontman, Goldsmith abruptly left after Grohl insisted that he would play drums on the record in Goldsmith's place. While the Foos have been on much better terms with Taylor Hawkins behind the kit, this is one of the few sore spots that afflicts one of rock's most lovable frontmen.
