10 Musicians Who Hate Their Own Songs

5. Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven

Stairway to Heaven might just be the most famous song in all of rock, and its history has no shortage of controversies, from allegations of hidden satanic messages to copyright lawsuits by bands claiming it was plagiarised.

All that aside, it still stands as one of the most iconic and greatest rock songs of all time... unless you ask Robert Plant. His disdain for the 1971 classic is well-documented and it has often brought him into disagreements with his bandmates. He simply did not want to perform it live anymore.

"I'd break out in hives if I had to sing that song in every show," Plant said to the New York Post in 1988. "I wrote those lyrics and found that song to be of some importance and consequence in 1971, but 17 years later, I don't know. It's just not for me."

Okay, Robert, we really don't want you to break out into hives.

He always praised the instrumental part of the song, but he would never really connect to the lyrics again. However, he did perform it once in 1988 at the anniversary of Atlantic Records, and then again in 2007 for Led Zeppelin's reunion concert, if only to appease the fans.
