7. Marigold Late!/Nirvana/Foo Fighters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tKuiMLZfpQ Its up to the listener as to which band this song originates from. Grohl first released, what was then named Color Pictures of a Marigold, under the name of Late! in 1992. It was first recorded with just guitar and vocals and Grohl did both of these himself. The song was later re-recorded by Nirvana and was featured as a B-side to Heart-Shaped Box, although it is not of B-side standard. This version was a new arrangement which included both drums and bass. Grohl took a lead role, contributing vocals, guitar and drums, while Novoselic played bass. Cobain was absent during the recording. So, if you are one of those who see it as a Nirvana song, then youre in luck it is the only Nirvana song that can still be performed, without any changes, by the original band members. Until 2006, Marigold had not been performed live. As part of a Foo Fighters set, Grohl performed an acoustic version. And one month later, the band performed it again, recording it for their live album, Skin and Bones. Three separate recordings, with three separate bands spanning a twelve year period suggests that this is a Dave Grohl song that just has to be heard.
