10 Nineties Songs That Sold Over 1 Million Copies

6. Teletubbies - 'Teletubbies Say "Eh-Oh!"'

There are few children's shows that have taken over the world as quickly as the Teletubbies. Introduced in 1997, the giant alien babies with TVs for bellies are still as popular today as they were back then.

Surprisingly, the series only ran for four years until its final episode in 2001. That short time on screens was all the creators needed however, as reruns continued for another fourteen years before a reboot came along. A children's show doing well on TV tends not to raise too many eyebrows, but what did shock the nation was just how well the theme tune sold.

1997 saw an unexpected race between the lovable children's characters and the most popular group of the time for Christmas number one. The Spice Girls won out, but by that point, the Teletubbies had been sitting at #1 for two weeks already. High sales figures continued as the track stayed in the charts for a whopping 29 weeks.

The BBC show managed to shift 1.3 million units in the UK, making it a double platinum release.
