10 Nineties Songs That Sold Over 1 Million Copies
7. Michael Jackson - 'Earth Song'
Michael Jackson's later work may not get the credit it deserves due to the various controversies that surrounded the late singer. Yet everyone can agree that 'Earth Song' is up there with some of his best work.
We nearly didn't get to hear this epic at all. The song was originally written for the previous album 'Dangerous', but didn't make the cut. The King of Pop finally released 'Earth Song' four years later to fan and critical acclaim, even getting a Grammy nomination in 1997.
The searing hook of the chorus is unforgettable and the message was just as powerful. The outstanding music video was filmed across four continents, showing areas most in need of help from outside sources.
This was Jackson's first time delving into the issues of animal welfare and environmental damage. The passion for the subject matter shines through in the powerful performance. It's just a shame we didn't heed his warning.
