7. Aqua - "Barbie Girl"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyhrYis509A Whilst technically released in 1997, this track saw a huge amount of exposure over the course of the noughties, and there isn't one British man, heterosexual or otherwise, that doesn't know every lyric (apart from the Norwegian bits). The fact remains, as disastrously cheesy and musically apocalyptic as the song was, it had the three components of pop: catchiness, optimism and longevity. Barbie Girl will always have a place in the heart of the UK, embarrassedly tucked behind the part of it that currently loves One Direction. It takes an impressive artist to create a song like that, and one that even the manliest men will tap their feet to when they've had a drink at a wedding.
