10 Overlooked Extreme Metal Albums From 2013

9. Serocs - The Next (Comatose Music)

http://youtu.be/ENmq-liKwcM The Lowdown: There was a lot of great technical/brutal death metal released in 2013. Obviously the likes of Gorguts, Katalepsy, Broken Hope, Deeds of Flesh, Suffocation, Defeated Sanity, Ulcerate and others deservedly got the lion's share of the attention. But buried in Comatose Music's late year run of typically gore-soaked brutal misogyny (Mortal Decay, Exhumer, Suture, Necrotic Disgorgement) was this little Mexican gem. Maybe because the album cover wasn't adorned with the label's usual perverse acts of gore and mutilation, maybe because no one know what or who the hell a 'Serocs' is or maybe because the band is from Mexico, this didn't get a whole lot of recognition on most metal sites, despite featuring Mike Poggione (Monstrosity/ Vile), Lecherous Nocturne vocalist Jason Hohenstein and Sotajumala/Atakhama drummer Timo Häkkinen. Delivering a brutal, twisty, turny, twangy take on death metal that recalls classic Cryptopsy, The Next is a refreshing vortex of brutal tech death metal that is skillful yet brutal without all the gore and perversion. Recommended If You Like: Cryptopsy, Canadian death metal in general.

I am metal. I am so metal I ejaculate mercury. OK, love puppies, pro football and my daughter, so how's that for balance? I own a little metal blog called teethofthedivine.com and used to write for Metal Maniacs, Unrestrained magazines and currently help out with Hails and Horns and New Noise magazines. Yeah- I guess I am metal.
