10 Overlooked Masterpiece Songs By Legendary Hard Rock Bands

3. Black Sabbath - Air Dance

Seminal rock band Black Sabbath need no further praise when it comes to the matter of their influence on heavy and hard rock. Formed in 1968, in Birmingham, England the band laid down a remarkable series of critically-acclaimed albums, not least 1970's Paranoid (which regularly crops up on any 'best-of' list) before internal tensions began to grab hold.

Air Dance hails from one of Black Sabbath's least successful records, 1978's Never Say Die, which was the last to feature the original line-up.

Lead singer and founding member Ozzy Osbourne. by this point, had already become semi-detached from the band but, at the request of the other players, returned for the making of Never Say Die.

It was a trying time for Black Sabbath, to say the least, and the results were indicative of the atmosphere in which it was produced. Osbourne would later observe: "it was the worst piece of work that I've ever had anything to do with. I'm ashamed of that album. I think it's disgusting."

Despite its initial negative reception, Never Say Die does contain moments of magic, not least Air Dance, an atypical Black Sabbath number, which floats as often as it punches, and is well worthy of inclusion here.
