10 Overlooked Masterpiece Songs By Legendary Rock Bands
2. High Hopes - Pink Floyd
We couldn't complete this list with this highly affecting song from one of the greatest bands of all time. By 1994, Pink Floyd were onto their 14th studio album. The Division Bell, their first in seven years, would also mark the band's second venture since the departure of founding member, Roger Waters.
It's fair to say that the stakes were high and, while the record garnered a Grammy award (for Best Rock Instrumental - Marooned), critical reception was decidedly mixed. Written largely by guitarist David Gilmour and keyboardist Richard Wright, the album contained no big individual hits, yet that didn't stop fans propelling the album to the top of the charts.
Uneven, the record may be, but the album's closing track, High Hopes, serves as an excellent summary of much of what made Pink Floyd special. We have epic themes here, delivered with hard-hitting style, imaginative soundscapes and mesmerizing production.
The song builds effectively from ringing church bells and found sounds to an eerie, adventurous exploration full of pathos and promise.
