10 Overlooked Masterpiece Songs By Legendary Rock Bands
3. Bargain - The Who
We make no apologies for the inclusion of two entries on this list by The Who. While their fifth studio album, 1971s Who's Next, remains much-beloved by fans, and regularly crops up in any 'best of' list of rock albums, casual listeners will likely only be familiar with Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again (thanks in no small part to their use as theme songs to, respectively, CSI: New York and CSI: Miama) and, at a push, Behind Blue Eyes.
That's a crying shame, as the album contains far more treasures waiting to be heard. Not the least of these is Bargain.
Written by Pete Townshend, and cited by the man himself as his favorite on the album, the track is a hard rocker which starts out with some deceptively tame acoustic guitar, before blossoming into a pyrotechnic display of exuberant drumming from Keith Moon, mercurial bass from John Entwistle and a characteristically emotional vocal delivery from Roger Daltrey.
It's as powerful and driving as The Who ever got, which is certainly saying much, and remains a standout from their excellent discography.
