10 Overrated Rock Music Albums Of The 2000s
7. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It’s Blitz
For many listeners, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ third album was the band at the peak of their powers. TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek was on production duties, the group was becoming a globally known proposition, and there were many who rated it among the finest works of the year.
But in retrospect, this release was a significant step down from the previous two terrific albums. The band had made a shift from the modern indie of the era into something a little more classic and timeless, but the ‘80s post punk vibes left the songs feeling cold and calculated, aiming for anthemic qualities that weren’t in their wheelhouse.
This is exemplified by second single “Heads Will Roll”, a synth drenched din that was for a time inescapable. The efforts worked in finding the group a new audience, but the soul of the band that made beautiful, sparse tracks like “Maps” seemed to be missing.
