10 Overrated Rock Music Albums Of The 2010s

6. Royal Blood - Royal Blood

Some of the biggest benefactors of the hype train in recent memory, Royal Blood were propped up by a UK music press desperate for the next guitar rockers ready to take the world by storm. Sometimes when that happens, you can see why - for all their flaws, The 1975 have a niche.

Royal Blood, not so much. Like so many riff rockers before them, they play big simple songs that might go well on a football montage or incite a few festival singalongs, but beyond that, there’s very little going on beyond the surface.

Their self titled debut nicks from Queens of the Stone Age and the White Stripes liberally, never approaching the fearsome power of either act. Figure It Out provides a particularly boneheaded riff, but even when the song reaches its noisy zenith, it still sounds awfully safe.

Opener Out of the Black is more lunkheaded still, as dashed off a first impression as you could hope to hear. Little Monster has something to it, but it’s a rare moment of inspiration for an album that runs out of ideas early in its 32 minutes.
