10 Perfect 1960s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

8. A Quick One - The Who

If you were an up and coming band in the '60s, you had to be a little bit more than just a gimmick to stick around. At a time that is now known as one of the greatest eras for rock and roll, the Who certainly deserved to be in that company off the raucous sounds of My Generation. They had found their calling as one of the first major forces in hard rock music, but where's the fun in that?

Going for a more democratic approach on the next album, A Quick One is one of the most singularly weird albums in The Who's discography. Along with some great covers of songs like Heat Wave, there are also moments where Pete Townshend lets go of the reins and lets the others pen a few tunes, like the madcap instrumental Cobwebs and Strange by Keith Moon and John Entiwistle making a modern day Halloween song on Boris the Spider.

When Townshend does eventually step up to the plate, it makes for some of the most enduring songs of his career, like the perfect power pop of So Sad About Us and the 9 minute title track closing everything out on a grand note. Come to think of it, that last song did end up telling a full story from beginning to end through the power of rock and roll. This wasn't just a fluke...this was the testing grounds for what would become Tommy.
