10 Perfect 1980s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
8. Ace Of Spades - Motorhead
The first years of the '80s don't really signify the sound that you know as '80s music. Since most of this was still the new wave boom and soft rock dominated the charts, we were still a long way from synth rock or any of the trademark sounds that would become mainstays a few years later. As for hard rock though, metal was still trucking along with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
Then again, is it all that fair to call Motorhead a metal band? I mean, the pieces are all there, from the thick groove of Lemmy's bass to the wild drum assault of Phil Taylor. Even though the tag has followed them around for decades, Lemmy always stood by the fact that Motorhead is just your standard rock and roll band. If that's the case though, Ace of Spades is up there with some of the heaviest rock ever made.
Since Lemmy was a descendant of the great rock troubadours of old, a lot of these songs feel genuine from skin to core, as you're taken on a ride through the different facets of rock and roll, from life on the road to the dirty sexual escapades you often find yourself in. It goes sex, drugs, rock and roll, gambling, repeat. It's not wholesome by any means, but there's no other way with Motorhead.
