10 Perfect 1990s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

8. Superunknown - Soundgarden

In the grand scheme of grunge rockers, Soundgarden tended to be latecomers to the MTV era of the genre. Though they had been paving the way for grunge since the late '80s in Seattle, it wasn't until a few weeks after Kurt Cobain's death that Superunknown was unleashed upon the world. Then again, it turns out the best version of these guys was when they were moving away from grunge altogether.

Because Superunknown is probably the most varied selection of songs in the entire grunge canon, almost like Chris Cornell was trying to write his answer to the '70s rock records that he loved as a kid. Calling this the "Bryan Ferry" years of the band, there's a lot more melody and musical color here, from the punk sounding Limo Wreck to doing the Beatles by way of Black Sabbath on Black Hole Sun.

There are even some moments where everything starts dipping into prog rock, with a handful of songs featuring alternate tunings for the guitars and having a few odd time signatures sprinkled in to catch you off guard. At the end of the day though, this was one of the greatest sounding rock albums and everyone knew it. When Dave Grohl eventually heard this, he knew that Soundgarden was about the explode, and who are we to disagree with Mr. Grohl's assessment?
