10 Perfect 1990s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
2. Nimrod - Green Day
Once the sad sacks of grunge started to grow up a little bit, rock and roll started to get a lot more happy. While there was still a lot of irony and anger when Green Day first arrived on the scene, the sounds of Dookie were just juvenile enough to win back the crowds that were scared away by grunge. When everyone started to pay attention though, these stoners from the Bay gave us one hell of a journey on Nimrod.
Though Dookie served as a great litmus test for what Green Day's sound was like at the best of times, this is where we start to see them spreading out into the band they would become later down the line. Looking to break out of the traditional three chord punk song, the bloated run length of this record is earned 100%, going from the punk ragers that you know and love to something a little more off the wall.
I mean, where else are you going to find a classic rock style stomper like Worry Rock on the exact same album that has a hardcore style punk song like Platypus (I Hate You). Oh yeah, and also there's that one acoustic song that you've probably heard between one and a million times as well. Still, after Dookie broke the preconceived notions of what Green Day could do, this is a good look at what punk could look like when it grew up.
