10 Perfect 2000s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

9. Dig, Lazarus Dig!!! – Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds (2008)

Nick Cave and his likely bunch of Bad Seeds have occupied a pretty distinct space over the last decade. Their last three albums have become progressively more sparse. The rock guitars have all but been phased out, replaced by a swirling ambience of choral singing and synthesises. Cave's lyrics have descended into increasingly darker territories also. It's to be expected, though. Cave and his musical partner Warren Ellis have made a string of haunting soundtracks together over the last 15 years, the influence of which can be heard in Bad Seeds records. And with the sad news of Cave's son dying in 2015 who can blame the man for getting a little morbid.

But go back to 2008 and Cave was still churning out more energetic, upbeat(ish) rock albums. Dig, Lazarus Dig!!! had such a massive sound to it, but thats to be expected with all the sprawling members that make up the band.

Perhaps only Nick Cave himself has the lexicon to appropriately describe his musical style with any accuracy. But the closest stab comes from a 2008 review in NME which refers to him as the "Harbinger of the gothic psycho-sexual apocalypse". It's a phrase that sums up this album pretty well. With its mix of optimistic guitar led tracks and more sinister references to biblical scale disasters - it's the record you want playing when welcoming in the era of Mad Max style gangs and radioactive wastelands.
