10 Perfect 2000s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
5. Aha Shake Heartbreak – Kings Of Leon (2004)
Kings Of Leon are one of those rock acts that crossed the threshold from small indie band to worldwide big hitters. These days you're just as likely to see a bunch of girls on a hen night at one of their shows as you are true rock fans. It's not necessarily a criticism, their take on indie rock was always fairly accessible to the masses. But as they've aged their sound has become a tad reductive, relying more on catchy pop choruses than anything else.
Their early sound was different. After the success of the blues inspired Youth and Young Manhood the band came out with their second record in 2004. Coming in at under 40 minutes, it was a punchy collection of tracks with equally punchy bass hooks.
The Tennessee boys played around with tempo on this record, Four Kicks, Razz and Pistols of Fire were the songs that displayed their ability to rock out and slower tracks like Milk and Soft displayed Caleb Followill's ability to write intriguing lyrics. The latter track being a humours confession of his inability to get it up after one too many whiskeys...
Either you're tapping your foot to the melodies or you're lost in the raw lyrics, either way this album doesn't have a dull moment in it.
