10 Perfect 2010s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
9. Lost In A Dream - The War On Drugs (2014)
Slave Ambient (2011) might have been the album that put The War On Drugs on the map, but, Lost In A Dream was the record that solidified Adam Granduciel as one of the more capable song writers in the rock game.
With their influences on full display, the band showcased their love of American-heartland music. You could sense the inspiration of the E Street Band, you could feel the presence of Springsteen, and you could all but hear Bob Dylan's husk, in Granduciel's vocals. But, far from feeling like they were leaning on their idols, the record brought a much beloved sound into the 21st century.
The album takes almost eight and half minutes to introduce itself, with the alluring, Under Pressure. Without becoming a tired or overly repetitive experience, the track serves as the perfect portal into the ambient dreamscape that follows. Tracks like, Red Eyes, add enough momentum to keep things moving, with driving drums and tantalising riff work that swirls around in a sonic space of filled with synthesisers and evocative lyricism. The album isn't without its slower moments, Suffering, really lays on the melancholy, but it serves as a great palate cleanser before you dive into the sonic highway of An Ocean In Between The Waves.
There hasn't been a more aptly named record in years.
