10 Perfect Albums That Blended Different Music Genres
1. The White Album - The Beatles
In the aftermath of Sgt. Peppers, the Beatles had shaped themselves into a completely different group than the moptops of the '60s. Kicking off the Summer of Love, the band wanted to share something that was meant for the entire world to enjoy, putting rock and roll on the same pedestal that most would reserve for high art. A few years can change someone though, and the White Album is the sound of throwing every single genre in one room and seeing what happens.
Coming after their experience with meditation in India, much of this record revolves around the different layers of each member's taste, which are often put right next to each other on the track listing. While there are definitely some of the Beatles' best songs on this record, it can also be incredibly discordant from one song to the next, from the tender ballads like George Harrison's Long Long Long coming directly Paul McCartney's answer to the Who Helter Skelter.
For all of the bloat that can come with a record like this, the magic that they created here gives it a lot more character, almost acting like a one stop shop for everything the Beatles are capable of thrown onto two pieces of vinyl. The Beatles may have created more complete listening experiences than this, but the White Album might be the closest that we will ever hear to the band being human.
