10 Perfect Albums That Blended Different Music Genres

3. Demon Days - Gorillaz

The entire mindset behind Gorillaz from day one was to give Damon Albarn an outlet to go outside his comfort zone. Something like Clint Eastwood would never have fit with Blur, and the sounds of this cartoon was going to be a lot more interesting than just rehashing the same Britpop sound over and over again. During a trip through the wastelands though, Damon had an idea for an album revolving around the end of the world.

Setting the scene in an apocalypse, Demon Days was constructed as a long journey through the night, with each song practically getting a different mood the more you listen to it. Although there are some songs that stand up as great Damon solo songs, he's only as good as the people he's working with, like De La Soul contributing some of the best bars of their career on Feel Good Inc. or bringing in MF Doom to play up his villainous persona on the track November Has Come.

Going through the entire record, it's almost like watching an apocalyptic Saturday morning cartoon at some points, even tying things up nicely with the symphonic touch of an orchestra on the final two tracks of the album. The night can be a lonely and dangerous place some of the time, and this is the kind of soundtrack that plays in your mind as the sun begins to rise.
