10 Perfect Albums That Broke Up The Band

7. Synchronicity - The Police

Throughout most of the Police's career, Stewart Copeland had compared the band's dynamic to a Prada suit that was made out of barbed wire. Even though the final product sounded amazing, it was no walk in the park to get there, and the band more often than not how to take things out on each other to get those magical moments. That didn't stop their star from rising though, and the band's biggest success at the time also proved to be the moment where everything fell apart.

As Sting stepped up his game as a pop songwriter, the addition of synthesizers on Synchronicity launched the band into the MTV era with ease, as songs like the second version of the title track and Every Breath You Take became staples on TV. Along with those songs though, you also can hear the guys not really clicking, with Stewart saying later that he never fully figured out how to play the song Wrapped Around Your Finger until they went out to play it live. If you want the real answer to the band's breakup here, it was more about being realistic.

For all of the infighting that was happening at the time, the decision to call things off here was because the band couldn't really take the pressure of being at that high a level of success. After bringing down the punk clubs in the early days, playing stadiums was the kind of Beatles level of fame that they were never going to equal again. No one wants to see their favorite band starting to phone it in over the years, so it's probably for the best that they just rode out into the sunset here.
