10 Perfect Albums That Broke Up The Band

8. Draw the Line - Aerosmith

For the five of you who don't know, the boys in Aerosmith liked to live on the edge back in the day. The Bad Boys from Boston tag was far from a joke, and you can hear many of the band members talking about getting high before performing and Steven Tyler claiming to have snorted half of Peru by the time he had finally cleaned up. It's all part of the rock and roll lifestyle, but Draw the Line was the first time where you started to see things going off the rails.

Compared to the rock and roll swagger of Rocks, this was the first time where the band started to become more exhausted during the production, making for a record that sounds like they're struggling to make any sort of coherent tune. Recording in an abandoned asylum for most of the project, Joe Perry wasn't even seen for the first few weeks, spending time in his room getting out of his mind on heroin, while the rest of the band tried to find some sort of groove that would work.

When you listen to the record proper, you can hear that kind of struggle too, with the title track sounding great but extremely messy and some tracks where it sounds like Steven is letting the cocaine do the singing for him. Joe Perry could barely make it through the next record before leaving the band, but if they had continued down this road, there's a good chance that we might not have seen any of the band members alive today.
